What are transactional emails?

Transactional emails are a form of email communication that allows you to provide unique correspondence after the subscriber has performed a specific action on your website or app. This means they are a form of triggered email campaigns that is solely based on what the subscriber has done. A common example of a transactional email is a password reset email or purchase receipt. The main thing to keep in mind when it comes to transactional emails is that they are crucial to good customer experience and usually also have great engagement rates.

An example of how transactional emails work:

A subscriber has forgotten their login password. They select a button named reset password. The subscriber then receives a detailed email with all the information needed on how to reset their password. This allows them to now reset their password and continue on.

Transactional emails are wonderful tools as they allow you to facilitate an agreed-upon “transaction” between your business and your subscriber.

Why are transactional emails so important?

Transactional emails are really important as they help you:

  • Instantly connect with your subscribers
  • Move a subscriber forward/ onto the next step in the user journey
  • Connect with your audience at critical points which helps establish positive relationships
  • Strengthen brand recognition

Who can use transactional emails?

Most e-commerce businesses use some form of transactional emails. If your business is based on a subscription model or requires some form of login, you might want to consider using transactional emails.

How to set up transactional emails?

PLEASE NOTE: You will only see the transactional email tab in your account if you have set up transactional emails.

  1. Create an API Key to ensure we can make your first request to generate the transactional tab in your Mail Blaze account.
  2. Once this is done, the easiest way is to make a GET request to your list endpoint using our API tool (as it doesn’t require any additional data). You can find all the information you need about our API in our API Documentation article.
  3. Once this is set up, this is where you will see all the info for the emails that are sent out.

Designing your transactional emails:

Personalise your transactional emails: Make sure you personalise the email experience. Transactional emails don’t need to be cold and uninviting.

Include brand elements: Include your logo and brand colours. This ensures that your brand is easy to recognise as well as making your emails more attractive. If you’d like to design your email using one of our templates or create your own design, you can contact [email protected] and we can help you export the HTML code that you can use in your internal systems.

Using transactional emails to add additional value:

Did you know that transactional emails are the perfect way to cross-sell or upsell products to your customers?

A great example is product recommendations based on the customer's purchases. This can be a great way to boost your sales while still giving customers the information they want and need.

Another great way to add additional value through transactional emails is to actually provide more information than the customer might expect.

This could include bonus content, special offers, advice, product instructions etc.

Benefits of using Mail Blaze to send your transactional emails:

  • Detailed reporting: See information about how your transactional emails are performing.
  • Data about your transactional emails can help you see which users have received, opened or clicked on a link in the email which helps you optimise your emails.
  • You can resend emails to users who haven’t received the email or haven’t opened your emails.
  • Transactional emails are completely customisable. Reach out to our team today to find out more.
