Preview Test Not Received: Causes and Troubleshooting

Before sending a campaign, it's good practice to send yourself a Preview Test to check your email's content, layout and links.

If your Preview Test doesn't arrive, it doesn't necessarily mean there's an issue with Mail Blaze. The email may have been delayed, filtered by your email provider or delivered to a different folder.

This guide explains the common causes of missing Preview Tests and the steps you can take to resolve the issue.

1. Check Your Spam or Junk Folder

Preview Test emails can sometimes be filtered into your Spam or Junk folder, particularly if:

  • You're sending a test to that email address for the first time.
  • Your mailbox provider hasn't recognised the sender as trusted.
  • Your email account has strict spam filtering enabled.

What to do:

  1. Open your Spam or Junk folder.
  2. Search for the Preview Test email.

This helps your email provider recognise similar messages in the future, although it does not guarantee that future tests will reach your Inbox.

2. Verify the Recipient's Email Address

Check that you entered the correct email address when sending the Preview Test.

A typing mistake or an outdated address can prevent the email from reaching the intended recipient.

If you're sending tests to multiple recipients, check each address individually.

3. Wait a Few Minutes

Preview Tests are usually delivered quickly, but delays can occur due to:

  • Temporary network or email processing issues.
  • Delays at the receiving email provider.
  • High email traffic.

If your test hasn't arrived immediately, wait a few minutes before sending another one.

Avoid sending multiple tests in quick succession, as this can make it harder to identify the cause of the delay.

4. Search Your Mailbox and Check Your Rules

Your Preview Test may have arrived but been moved out of your Inbox automatically.

Check your mailbox for rules or settings that may redirect incoming emails, including:

  • Inbox rules and filters.
  • Categories or tabs, such as Promotions.
  • Focused Inbox settings.
  • Automatic forwarding or folder redirection.

Use your mailbox's search function to look for the message across all folders.

5. Try a Different Email Address

Send a Preview Test to another email address, preferably one hosted by a different email provider, such as Gmail or Outlook.

If the test arrives at the alternative address but not your original one, the issue may be related to the original mailbox or its email provider.

If the test doesn't arrive at either address, further investigation may be needed.

6. Send a Test Campaign to a Test List

If you're still not receiving your Preview Test, send a test campaign to a small test list that includes the email address you're sending the Preview Test to.

This helps you determine whether the issue is specific to Preview Tests or also affects regular campaign delivery.

How to do this:

  1. Create a test list containing your own email address or the email address of the person who isn't receiving the Preview Test. 2.Create a test campaign using the same email content.
  2. Send the campaign to your test list.
  3. Check whether the email arrives in the recipient's Inbox, Spam or Junk folder.

How to interpret the results:

  • The test campaign arrives, but the Preview Test doesn't: This suggests the issue may be specific to Preview Test delivery. Contact Mail Blaze Support if the problem continues.
  • Neither the Preview Test nor the test campaign arrives: The issue may be related to the recipient's email provider, spam filtering or another delivery problem. Continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
  • The test campaign arrives in Spam or Junk: The recipient's email provider may be filtering the message. Review the content and authentication of your sending domain, and ask your IT administrator to investigate if you're using a company email address.

Important: Only send the test campaign to a small list of addresses you control or have permission to email. Do not use your full subscriber list for troubleshooting.

7. Ask Your IT Administrator

If you're using a company email address, your organisation may have security controls that block or quarantine incoming messages before they reach your Inbox.

These may include:

  • Spam filtering software.
  • Email security gateways.
  • Firewall or mail server rules.
  • Quarantine policies.

Ask your IT administrator to check whether the Preview Test was blocked, quarantined or rejected by your organisation's email security systems.

8. Contact Mail Blaze Support

If you've completed the steps above and still haven't received your Preview Test, contact the Mail Blaze Support team through live chat or email.

To help us investigate, please provide:

  • Recipient email address: The address used for the Preview Test.
  • Date and time: Approximately when you sent the test.
  • Scope of the issue: Whether it affects one email address or multiple recipients.
  • Previous delivery: Whether you've successfully received Preview Tests before.
  • Troubleshooting completed: The checks you've already performed.

This information will help us narrow down the cause and determine the appropriate next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long should I wait for a Preview Test?

Preview Tests are usually delivered within seconds, but occasional delays can occur. Wait a few minutes and check your Spam or Junk folder before trying again.

2. Why am I not receiving Preview Tests even though other emails arrive normally?

Your email provider may be filtering the Preview Test differently from other messages. Check your Spam folder, mailbox rules and security settings. If you're using a company email address, ask your IT administrator to check the mail server logs and quarantine.

3. Why does my Preview Test arrive in Gmail but not my company email?

Your company may use stricter email security policies or filtering rules. Ask your IT administrator to check whether the message was blocked or quarantined.

4. Will sending another Preview Test fix the issue?

Not necessarily. If the email is being filtered or blocked by the receiving provider, sending it again may not resolve the problem. Complete the troubleshooting steps first and avoid sending repeated tests in quick succession.

5. Does a missing Preview Test mean my campaign won't be delivered?

No. A missing Preview Test does not automatically mean your campaign has a delivery issue. Preview Tests and campaign sends may be handled differently by receiving systems. However, you should investigate persistent delivery problems before sending an important campaign.

6. Can Mail Blaze check why my Preview Test wasn't received?

Yes. The Support team can help investigate the issue. Provide the recipient address, approximate sending time and details of the troubleshooting steps you've completed.

7. What should I do if Preview Tests stop arriving at all my email addresses? Check whether the issue affects multiple providers and confirm that the recipient addresses are correct. If none of the tests arrive after you've completed the checks, contact Mail Blaze Support for further investigation.
